About the Fruit

Embark on a journey to the Far East with the Great Wall Persimmon, a fruit that captures the essence of autumn in every bite. This Chinese native is a culinary treasure, offering a rich, honey-like flavor that is both sweet and slightly tangy. The Great Wall Persimmon’s smooth, deep orange skin encases a firm, succulent flesh that is perfect for fresh eating, baking, or creating traditional Asian delicacies. Its striking appearance and delectable taste make it a must-have for gourmets and fruit aficionados alike.

What to Know About the Tree

The Great Wall Persimmon tree is a deciduous wonder, shedding its leaves in winter to reveal a stark, sculptural beauty. This tree is not only a provider of delicious fruits but also a stunning ornamental addition to any garden. Reaching heights of up to 12-15 feet when mature, it boasts an elegant, rounded canopy with glossy green leaves that turn to fiery shades of red and orange in the fall. This tree’s robust nature ensures it is adaptable to a variety of climates, requiring minimal care and yielding high fruit production.

Harvest Season

The Great Wall Persimmon heralds the arrival of fall with its bountiful harvest. As the leaves begin their colorful transformation, the tree becomes adorned with vibrant orange fruits, ready to be picked from late September through November. The harvest season is a visual feast, as the persimmons hang like ornaments against the autumnal backdrop, waiting to be plucked and savored during the cozy days of fall.

Fruitscaping™ with Persimmon Trees

Embark on a unique Fruitscaping™ journey with our exquisite selection of Persimmon Trees. We offer both astringent and non-astringent varieties to cater to diverse taste preferences. While astringent persimmons are known for their high tannin content, making them best enjoyed when fully ripe, non-astringent persimmons can be savored crisp, like an apple, without the mouth-puckering sensation.

Persimmon trees are nature’s multi-taskers, adding visual allure, shade, and succulent fruits to your organic garden. They are remarkably resistant to diseases and pests, making them a low-maintenance yet high-reward addition to your Fruitscaping™ endeavors.

Persimmons thrive in well-drained, sandy or loamy soil and prefer slightly acidic conditions. They flourish under full sun exposure, needing at least six hours of sunlight daily to yield a rich crop.

In the Fruitscaping™ design, persimmon trees offer striking ornamental value. Their lush foliage in summer and vibrant, orange-yellow fall colors create a spectacular display. Moreover, the bright orange fruits hanging on the tree after leaf drop offer a unique, decorative touch throughout the winter.

Persimmon trees also prove a fantastic choice for different gardening styles. Whether you choose to shape them into a magnificent espalier or let them grow naturally, they contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal of your garden.

Immerse yourself in the rewarding journey of Fruitscaping™ with our Persimmon Trees. From planting and caring to harvesting and enjoying the sweet, honey-like flavor of your homegrown persimmons, each step is filled with delightful experiences. With our astringent and non-astringent varieties, discover the pleasure of growing and savoring your own persimmons.

Shipping Information

Before Your Plants Arrive: You can find many guides on unpacking, planting, & care, on our growing guides page.

The Journey From Our Nursery to Your Door:  We NEVER ship our plants bare root. Your plant will travel in the very container in which it was nurtured. We thoroughly prune and water them before packing, and make sure they’re well wrapped to retain moisture during transit. It’s as though you’ve personally collected them from our nursery!

Choose Your Ship Date: We understand you’ll want to be available when your plant arrives. Our checkout process features a handy calendar that allows you to choose the Monday on which you want your plant to ship. Depending on your location, you’ll likely receive your plant by Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of that week. Once shipped, UPS will generate a tracking number and send it to the email you provided. You can then follow your plant’s journey and ensure someone is available to unpack it on arrival day.
