About the Fruit

The Brown Turkey Fig is a delight for epicureans and gardeners alike, offering a sweet, mild flavor and a plump, pear-shaped profile. Its purplish-brown skin encases the luscious, amber-colored flesh that teems with a rich, honeyed taste. Perfect for fresh snacking, delectable jams, or as a sumptuous addition to cheese platters, this fig variety is a versatile gem in the culinary world.

What to Know About the Tree

As a testament to resilience and grace, the Brown Turkey Fig Tree presents broad, lobed leaves that create a tropical aura in any setting. This deciduous tree exhibits a robust stature, reaching up to 15-25 feet tall and wide, and is adorned with an attractive, silvery bark. It thrives in various climates, endures cooler temperatures, and is known for its bountiful yields. Its sprawling branches not only bear fruits but also become a haven for birds and wildlife, adding a dynamic layer to your garden’s ecosystem.

Harvest Season

Anticipate a generous harvest season with the Brown Turkey Fig, which typically ripens from late summer to early fall. The tree becomes a center of activity and beauty as the figs mature and hint at their readiness with a slightly drooping posture. This variety offers an extended picking period, making it a favorite among fig enthusiasts who enjoy a prolonged season of fresh, homegrown delights.

Fruitscaping™ with Fig Trees

Embrace the joy of Fruitscaping™ with our Fig Trees. Among the simplest and most rewarding fruiting plants to grow, figs are an excellent addition to any organic garden. Their inherent disease resistance and few pest issues can be managed easily without the need for harsh chemicals, ensuring a bountiful, eco-friendly harvest.

Our Fig trees exhibit a diverse palette of flavors, textures, and ripening seasons. Some varieties possess thin skins with succulent centers evoking the flavor of rich maple syrup – a delight when savored fresh from the tree. Other varieties offer a naturally sweet texture, perfect for drying or turning into delectable preserves.

With their compact growth habit, fig trees are perfect for integrating into the shrubbery border, adding an attractive contrast with their broad, deeply lobed leaves. Consider pairing these distinctive trees with the elegant pomegranate and the fine-textured blueberry bushes for a stunning visual mix. Complement this arrangement with a lush undergrowth of strawberries, creating a cycle of blooming flowers, ripening fruit, and vibrant fall colors.

The young fig tree’s smooth, flexible trunk lends itself to creative gardening techniques. Train it into an espalier for a living wall, or twist it into a striking specimen tree. If you’re dealing with limited space, lay the trunk flat against the ground, and watch as the vertical shoots transform into a natural, green hedge.

Fig trees are also well-suited to container gardening. The root restriction of a pot often encourages the tree to produce even more prolific crops. So, if you’re an urban gardener or short on garden space, our fig trees will prove a perfect fit.

Embrace the ease and joy of Fruitscaping™ with Fig Trees. Enjoy the journey from planting and care to the sweet reward of your homegrown figs.

Shipping Information

Before Your Plants Arrive: You can find many guides on unpacking, planting, & care, on our growing guides page.

The Journey From Our Nursery to Your Door:  We NEVER ship our plants bare root. Your plant will travel in the very container in which it was nurtured. We thoroughly prune and water them before packing, and make sure they’re well wrapped to retain moisture during transit. It’s as though you’ve personally collected them from our nursery!

Choose Your Ship Date: We understand you’ll want to be available when your plant arrives. Our checkout process features a handy calendar that allows you to choose the Monday on which you want your plant to ship. Depending on your location, you’ll likely receive your plant by Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of that week. Once shipped, UPS will generate a tracking number and send it to the email you provided. You can then follow your plant’s journey and ensure someone is available to unpack it on arrival day.
