Black Jack Fig Tree: The Bountiful Dark Treasure

About the Fruit

Indulge in the lush sweetness of the Black Jack Fig, a delectable variety renowned for its large, elongated purplish fruit that offers a taste of the exotic right from your own garden. The succulent flesh inside ranges from strawberry red to amber, providing a rich and juicy flavor that is perfect for fresh snacking, decadent fig spreads, or adding an elegant touch to cheese platters. The Black Jack Fig is not only a treat for the palate but also a visually stunning addition to any culinary creation.

What to Know About the Tree

The Black Jack Fig Tree is a true garden gem, featuring strikingly deep green leaves that provide a lush backdrop to its distinctive fruits. This semi-dwarf tree is well-suited for smaller spaces, as it grows to a manageable height of 15-25 feet when planted in the ground and can also be easily maintained at a shorter height when grown in a pot. In cooler climates, it goes dormant in winter, while in milder regions, it may retain its leaves year-round, offering a persistent splash of verdant color in your garden.

Harvest Season

Anticipation peaks in the summer when the Black Jack Fig Tree’s branches are laden with its signature dark fruit. From mid-summer to early fall, gardeners are rewarded with a generous harvest, which can often extend into a second crop in the late season. This bounty not only provides an abundance of fresh figs for immediate enjoyment but also ample opportunity for drying and preserving the harvest to savor throughout the year.

Fruitscaping™ with Fig Trees

Embrace the joy of Fruitscaping™ with our Fig Trees. Among the simplest and most rewarding fruiting plants to grow, figs are an excellent addition to any organic garden. Their inherent disease resistance and few pest issues can be managed easily without the need for harsh chemicals, ensuring a bountiful, eco-friendly harvest.

Our Fig trees exhibit a diverse palette of flavors, textures, and ripening seasons. Some varieties possess thin skins with succulent centers evoking the flavor of rich maple syrup – a delight when savored fresh from the tree. Other varieties offer a naturally sweet texture, perfect for drying or turning into delectable preserves.

With their compact growth habit, fig trees are perfect for integrating into the shrubbery border, adding an attractive contrast with their broad, deeply lobed leaves. Consider pairing these distinctive trees with the elegant pomegranate and the fine-textured blueberry bushes for a stunning visual mix. Complement this arrangement with a lush undergrowth of strawberries, creating a cycle of blooming flowers, ripening fruit, and vibrant fall colors.

The young fig tree’s smooth, flexible trunk lends itself to creative gardening techniques. Train it into an espalier for a living wall, or twist it into a striking specimen tree. If you’re dealing with limited space, lay the trunk flat against the ground, and watch as the vertical shoots transform into a natural, green hedge.

Fig trees are also well-suited to container gardening. The root restriction of a pot often encourages the tree to produce even more prolific crops. So, if you’re an urban gardener or short on garden space, our fig trees will prove a perfect fit.

Embrace the ease and joy of Fruitscaping™ with Fig Trees. Enjoy the journey from planting and care to the sweet reward of your homegrown figs.

Shipping Information

Before Your Plants Arrive: You can find many guides on unpacking, planting, & care, on our growing guides page.

The Journey From Our Nursery to Your Door:  We NEVER ship our plants bare root. Your plant will travel in the very container in which it was nurtured. We thoroughly prune and water them before packing, and make sure they’re well wrapped to retain moisture during transit. It’s as though you’ve personally collected them from our nursery!

Choose Your Ship Date: We understand you’ll want to be available when your plant arrives. Our checkout process features a handy calendar that allows you to choose the Monday on which you want your plant to ship. Depending on your location, you’ll likely receive your plant by Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of that week. Once shipped, UPS will generate a tracking number and send it to the email you provided. You can then follow your plant’s journey and ensure someone is available to unpack it on arrival day.
