O’Rourke Fig Tree: Savor the Heritage Flavor

About the Fruit

The O’Rourke Fig Tree yields a fruit that is a true testament to nature’s sweetness. Heralding from a lineage of rich, flavorful varieties, this fig offers a succulent, rich and honeyed taste that is simply unmatched. Each fig is a treasure, with a velvety skin that encases its luscious, jammy interior, making it perfect for fresh snacking, decadent preserves, or as an elegant topping for desserts and cheese boards. The O’Rourke’s figs are not just food, but a heritage experience for your palate.

What to Know About the Tree

The O’Rourke Fig Tree is a symbol of resilience and beauty. This deciduous tree flaunts large, lobed leaves that provide a tropical look during the growing season. It stands out with its robust growth habit, reaching up to 10-15 feet in height and width. The tree is well-adapted to a variety of climates and is known for its cold hardiness, making it an excellent choice for many gardeners. In the winter, the tree may go dormant, showcasing its sculptural branches until the warmth of spring beckons the leaves and figs anew.

Harvest Season

The anticipation for the O’Rourke figs crescendos in late summer to early fall when the figs reach their peak ripeness. This period marks a time of abundance as the tree is bedecked with its fruits, awaiting the harvest. The bounty continues as the figs, warm from the summer sun, can be plucked straight from the tree and savored on the spot, providing a joyous and flavorful end to the season.

Fruitscaping™ with Fig Trees

Embrace the joy of Fruitscaping™ with our Fig Trees. Among the simplest and most rewarding fruiting plants to grow, figs are an excellent addition to any organic garden. Their inherent disease resistance and few pest issues can be managed easily without the need for harsh chemicals, ensuring a bountiful, eco-friendly harvest.

Our Fig trees exhibit a diverse palette of flavors, textures, and ripening seasons. Some varieties possess thin skins with succulent centers evoking the flavor of rich maple syrup – a delight when savored fresh from the tree. Other varieties offer a naturally sweet texture, perfect for drying or turning into delectable preserves.

With their compact growth habit, fig trees are perfect for integrating into the shrubbery border, adding an attractive contrast with their broad, deeply lobed leaves. Consider pairing these distinctive trees with the elegant pomegranate and the fine-textured blueberry bushes for a stunning visual mix. Complement this arrangement with a lush undergrowth of strawberries, creating a cycle of blooming flowers, ripening fruit, and vibrant fall colors.

The young fig tree’s smooth, flexible trunk lends itself to creative gardening techniques. Train it into an espalier for a living wall, or twist it into a striking specimen tree. If you’re dealing with limited space, lay the trunk flat against the ground, and watch as the vertical shoots transform into a natural, green hedge.

Fig trees are also well-suited to container gardening. The root restriction of a pot often encourages the tree to produce even more prolific crops. So, if you’re an urban gardener or short on garden space, our fig trees will prove a perfect fit.

Embrace the ease and joy of Fruitscaping™ with Fig Trees. Enjoy the journey from planting and care to the sweet reward of your homegrown figs.

The Journey From Our Nursery to Your Door:  We NEVER ship our plants bare root. Your plant will travel in the very container in which it was nurtured. We thoroughly prune and water them before packing, and make sure they’re well wrapped to retain moisture during transit. It’s as though you’ve personally collected them from our nursery!

Choose Your Ship Date: We understand you’ll want to be available when your plant arrives. Our checkout process features a handy calendar that allows you to choose the Monday on which you want your plant to ship. Depending on your location, you’ll likely receive your plant by Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of that week. Once shipped, UPS will generate a tracking number and send it to the email you provided. You can then follow your plant’s journey and ensure someone is available to unpack it on arrival day.
