Interested in what it takes to have your own bee hive? Here’s your opportunity to learn from the pros. Roger Twitchell and his wife Ellyn Hutton of Cainey Branch Farm will explain in depth the steps to becoming a successful beekeeper. This is the first of three classes. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, 10:00-11:30AM, TAPP Rain Garden Workshop
TAPP instructors will take participants through the design and planning of a rain garden on their properties to slow the flow of water from their yards and improve groundwater recharge. This lesson will introduce participants to the 1880s garden. We will learn about producers, consumers and decomposers and why they are all important parts of our garden. Gardening Friends of the Big Bend hosts its fourth Plantaholic Preview Party. The fundraiser includes party food and drinks with a crowd of plant enthusiasts bidding on silent and live auction items. Pre-priced plants are also for sale. Auction and sale items include rare, unique, bodacious and perhaps even bizarre plants and accessories suitable for the South. To be staged amidst the splendor of the demo garden bed. A once a year much awaited event. There will be individual bed tours that will enable personal interaction between Master Gardeners who will answer questions about the plantings, irrigation, fertilization, soil preparation, etc. Tables will be set up to education on butterfly gardening, wildlife habitat, the FYN/FFY program and invasive plants, propagation, greenhouse growing.
